Monday Night Practice

Here is a picture of the PAL kids after they worked on Monday. They were awesome. I ended up having them do some conditioning and then they participated in an endless relay inside the gym.

Test Drive

Well Rene' and I went to checked out a couple of new vehicles on Saturday. The first place we decided to go was the Subaru dealer. Well the sales person told us that we were going to experience the whole ride from a passengers view point. The first thing he did was get the car up to 60 miles an hour and slammed on the brakes right when he came up to a stop sign. I didn't think he was going to stop, but he did at the last moment. Then next test was to buried the front wheels in the sand and drove out easily. Then he took us up a steep hill and showed us the car wouldn't roll back. The last test consisted of driving the car up over the drainage so that it would be leaning over and he got out and sat on the door to show us that the car wouldn't lean over. Overall it was worth the experience just checking this ride out because of all the test they show.

The next stop was at the Honda dealer and it was uneventful. Just a test drive and then they tried to get us to buy a car that day. Well that wasn't going to happen. Just checking what is out there.

If you know anything about the following vehicles please let us know what you think about them.

Honda CRV
Subaru Forrester

Okay now I know why I swim at 5:30 a.m

So I am on spring break this week and Rene' asked me what time I was going to get up and I told her I was planning on swimming at 5:30 a.m. She thought I should sleep in and swim later. Well I woke up tired so I slept in and decided to hit the pool later in the morning. Low and behold it was set up for long course which is fine with me but a few members will always complain. There is always that one person that would like to have the lane to themselves even if it is long course (50 meters). So a friend that I used to train with was swimming and she asked me if I wanted to circle swim and I said sure. Basically she was saying it was okay to swim in her lane. The lane next to me had a person that complains all the time when someone jumps in her lane. Now this same person has a lap lane pool at her house so if she gets upset so much I don't know why she can't just swim in her own pool.

Well I ended up just swimming repeat 500's and getting about 2200 in for the day. I also bumped into several people that I haven't seen for sometime because I do swim at 5:30 a.m. One person even asked if I was still around in this area.

Oh yes, the person in the lane next to me was complaining to someone because she had someone in her lane that didn't know how to circle swim.

I swim at 5:30 a.m to avoid all the people that like to hog the lane to themselves and to avoid hearing people complain. Negative energy isn't good.

Saturday's Swim

A couple of pictures from Saturday's swim. A big thanks to Elliot and his mother for letting us swim from their place. Elliot was nice enough to kayak while we swam.

Some things are better off not knowing

Today, I went for my usual 5:30 a.m swim but it was 41 degrees outside. I decided that I should go ahead and get dressed for my swim in the locker room so when I stepped outside I could dive right into the pool. As I headed outside, I noticed a new guard on duty and no one else was in the pool. Plus there wasn't any steam coming off the pool. Hmmm, not a good sign. Well I dove in and then realized why there was no steam coming off the pool because it was cold. I ended up swimming longer sets so I didn't have to stop but it was cold as I was swimming and I never warmed up.

As I was swimming, I realized that it was better for me not knowing the water was cold because I wouldn't have swam if I had known this. Funny thing is when I was getting out the water the lady lifeguard had the guts to ask me if it was cold getting in... As if she didn't already know this. Also, when I went into the locker room one of my friends that usual swims when I do told me I was crazy for swimming.

Saturday's Group Training

Today we had a group practice at Blue Jacket Park over in Orlando. We decided that we would introduce our runners to a new workout and they seem to really like it. It is nice to mix things up and not just go out and run. Tomorrow we have several athlete's racing in an Olympic Distance Triathlon in Clermont.

A non-athletic observation

This morning I stopped off to get a bag of ice for our group training program and while I was in line a lady was buying two cartons of smokes. When the clerk rang up the smokes the bill came to $75.00. The lady buying the smokes just shook her head as if she didn't know they were going to cost that much. What she may have forgotten is that it is going to cost her a lot more money if she keeps that habit up.
